Montgomery. In our ascent of Mt. Jefferson last summer we found two boxes cached among the rocks at the rugged top of the main pinnacle. One of these is of copper, at that time in good condition, containing a small note book in which registration had been made. This is evidently the box that was placed on the summit by the first of the Mazama expeditions, or does it date back to the days of the old Oregon Alpine Club? The second box is of iron and has been punctured in three or four places by the frequent lightnings. This box was taken up by the second Mazama expedition.
